Alan Tough Lunar four

Each on of these photos literally shows the moon in a "different" light.

Dec 24, 2007: In this image the hue and saturation have been pushed, using Photoshop image processing software, to enhance the natural mineral colouration.

Feb 16, 2008: A gibbous Moon in daylight is a gorgeous sight. This image was taken about 15 minutes before the Sun set - a time when the Moon shows plenty of contrast against a blue sky.

Feb 21, 2008: A Total Lunar Eclipse is one of those 'must see' events in astronomy. TLEs occur when the Moon passes through the Earth's umbral shadow. How bright or dark the eclipse is depends on conditions in Earth's atmosphere at the time. This 5-second exposure was taken just after the start of totality, at 0304 UT.

Mar 9, 2008: The 2-day-old lunar crescent has been overexposed here to reveal details on the 'dark side' of the Moon. Sunlight reflected off Earth's clouds and ice provides the light source for this phenomenon - known as Earthshine.
