At the heart of the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237-2239), in the constellation of Monoceros, lies the star cluster NGC 2244. In fact, the stellar winds from this cluster are clearing a hole in the middle of the emission nebula.
Imaging and guiding equipment: Sky-Watcher Evostar-Pro 80ED (f/7.5), Sky-Watcher Evostar-Pro 100ED (f/9), HEQ5 mount, Canon EOS 300D at prime focus, Astronomik CLS filter, StarShoot Autoguider, PHD guiding software.
Exposure details: Only 3 x 10-minute sub-frames were taken on 24 January 2009 from Elgin. This meant considerable image processing in order to lift the signal above the noise level. Despite the short exposure time, dark dust lanes and Bok Globules can still be seen in the final image.
