The noctilucent cloud display of July 15-16 started off as a series of bright bands - seen through broken tropospheric cloud. As dark clouds gathered over Elgin, I decided to try my luck at Lossiemouth. This proved to be a wise move. In my five years of observing this particular phenomenon, I don't think I have ever seen such intense white structure and vivid electric-blue colour in an NLC display.
