Moving the Bothy to Birnie
Thanks to the generosity of SIGMA Treasurer, Peter Fitch, the club acquired a building, (The Bothy), to be used at our new observing site at Birnie. Once the Committee had been out on a "fact finding" mission, there was no stopping us!
On the weekend of 3rd/4th May 2003, a large number of members and friends slaved to dismantle the building at Kiltarlity, near Beauly, and have it transported to Birnie. SIGMA owes a great deal of thanks to Ian Shayer who arranged for Gleaner Oils to provide transport and a driver for the move from Kiltarlity to Birnie.
For the bothy to be loaded, it had to be taken apart bit by bit and dragged/carried/pushed through about a mile of woodland! Needless to say there were a lot of aching backs after the weekend.

Transport for the Bothy would have been impossible without the great help of Gleaner Oils, kindly arranged by SIGMA member Ian Shayer. |
Thank you to June & Graham Cox and to Karen Cox for providing the pictures.
