INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY 2009
Thanks to a very generous grant from the Royal Astronomical Society, Sigma was able to hold five separate events to mark the International Year of Astronomy.

All events ran from 2pm - 4.30pm and 7 - 9.30pm (approx)
The afternoon sessions consisted of several, family orientated workshops. These workshops were subject to change on the day, but generally included:
- rocket making and launching (kit supplied by Going Nova)
- make your own sundial
- umbrella astronomy
- solar system on a toilet roll!
- pin prick constellations
- comet making demonstrations
The evening events commenced at 7pm with two short talks introducing the night sky, before an observing session with telescopes manned by Sigma members. When the weather was against us, there was a wet weather alternative which consisted of several short and entertaining talks by Sigma members.
Entry to all events was free.
