Steve Owens at Nairn Community Centre
Based at Glasgow Science Centre, Steve Owens is the UK Co-ordinator for the International Year of Astronomy.
To help promote the IYA, Highlands Astronomical Society and Moray's Astronomy Club, Sigma are holding a joint event at Nairn Community Centre, Nairn on Friday 8th May 7.30pm - 9.30pm.
The Thirteenth Sign: An Astronomer's Journey into the Astrologers' Lair
Steve Owens, UK Co-ordinator for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, recounts his experiences of speaking to astrologers, and presents a history of astrology and astronomy, explaining how the two subjects diverged with the employment of the scientific method and critical thinking in the 17th Century. Steve has been invited to speak to many astrological societies over the years, and in this talk he confronts much of the "evidence" that astrologers put forward in defence of their art, as well as addressing the reasons why people believe such strange things.
