INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY 2009
Thanks to a very generous grant from the Royal Astronomical Society, Sigma has been able to hold five events separate events, to mark the International Year of Astronomy.

Sat 28th Feb 2009 - Dyke & District Village Hall, Dyke
Sat 28th March 2009 - Lhanbryde Community Centre, Lhanbryde
Sat 26th Sept 2009 - Craigellachie Village Hall, Craigellachie
Sat 24th Oct 2009 - Gordonstoun, nr Lossiemouth, Moray
Sat 21st Nov 2009 - The McBoyle Hall, Portknockie
All events will run from 2pm - 4.30pm and 7 - 9.30pm (approx)
The afternoon sessions will consist of several, family orientated workshops. These workshops can be subject to change on the day, but should include:
- rocket making and launching (kit supplied by Going Nova)
- make your own sundial
- umbrella astronomy
- solar system on a toilet roll!
- pin prick constellations
- comet making demonstrations
The evening events will commence at 7pm with two short talks to introduce you to the night sky, before an observing session with telescopes manned by Sigma members. Should the weather be against us, there will be a wet weather alternative which will consist of several short and entertaining talks by Sigma members.

Many local astronomy clubs will be planning events in their area to coincide with the International Year of Astronomy. Keep an eye out in local press for details regarding your local club.
